Passage de Gracia
The following series of pictures is my depiction of how consumerism and urbanism relate to one another. I’ve always had an interest in street photography, especially in terms of the fashion world, and I wanted to create a project which showcases how consumerism behavior, such as shopping, changes how a street looks like. The pictures I took illustrate the constant movement seen in the streets because of consumerism, which results in a restless and ever-moving overall atmosphere.
This restless atmosphere is not only seen through the number of people in the streets, but also through the constant advertisements of brands seen on walls, buildings, motorcycles, or even the reflection of the Apple logo through a puddle. The movement in the streets is not only created by people walking, shopping or even just window shopping, it happens at every corner that has changed over time because of consumerism.
Through my pictures I wanted to show that a street, or even a whole district, can change drastically because of its built environment (in this case a shopping environment). Advertisement has greatly impacted the way streets evolve, and through this series I wanted to capture and give an essence of the concept of constant movement in a still frame.
